How to choose a relocation agency in Belgium
Belgium is the one country of the three with a national association, ABRA. This guide shows what its member list says, what the EuRA seal adds, and what to check before you pay a firm.

The short answer
A relocation agent looks after people: home search, registration, school search, settling in. A moving company transports goods. In Belgium the national association is ABRA, the Association of Belgian Relocation Agents. Its member list named 16 full members when we read it on 6 October 2026, and EuRA lists 11 Belgian providers.
A membership shows that a firm joined. Check the scope, the city, the language, a written price and who does the legal part of a permit. The Brussels Region's Expat Welcome Desk is a free alternative for the basics.

Relocation agent or moving company: which one do you need?
They sell different things, and directories mix them.
A relocation agent works for the person who moves. Typical tasks are finding a home, registering at the commune, enrolling children at school and helping with utilities and contracts. KBC Brussels says the agencies on its list can help with the search for accommodation, supervise your move and accompany you in most settling procedures: registration with the municipality, the rental contract, telecom and energy subscriptions and school registration (KBC Brussels, read 7 Oct 2026). A moving company carries your belongings from one address to another.
The search results blur the two. A Belgian directory of relocation services that our research read on 6 October 2026 had 27 entries, mostly movers and comparison sites (Expatica Belgium). So ask what the firm will do for you personally, and what is only a price for a van. This guide is about agents. What they charge is in what a relocation agency costs in Belgium.
Which kinds of provider exist in Belgium?
- Members of the national association. ABRA’s full members include Belgian firms and offices of international networks.
- Smaller agencies and freelancers. Small agencies and individual freelancers make up the rest of the supply. As one example of a published offer, Do It 4 Me’s page describes a package with up to 15 property visits and follow-up around the lease (Do It 4 Me, read 7 Oct 2026).
- Estate agents that sell home search to expats. They work under the professional institute IPI. Expat Housing, for example, shows an IPI registration number and says it follows the institute’s code of ethics (Expat Housing, read 7 Oct 2026).
- International networks serving Belgium from abroad. Some serve Brussels and Antwerp with consultants and no Belgian office. Ask where your consultant is based.
- Comparison sites and platforms. They list many firms and mix movers in.
Most of the supply sits in Brussels, with fewer firms in Antwerp and Ghent. ReloFinder’s Belgium page lists the agencies with an office there: 14 on 7 October 2026, 7 of them in Brussels and 3 in Antwerp.
What does ABRA’s member list show?
ABRA is the Association of Belgian Relocation Agents. When our research read its member list on 6 October 2026 showed 16 full members (ABRA, read 6 Oct 2026). We do not list them here: check a firm’s membership on ABRA’s own list, and on our Belgium page. The list also had affiliate members. They include law firms and insurers and banks, which tells you that local financial firms court agencies directly.
Two cautions. The ABRA site blocked our tools on 7 October 2026, so we could not read the list again, and members may have changed since. And a list of members is not a list of audited firms: our research notes record no entry criteria. Read the page yourself on the day you decide, and ask the firm what membership means in practice.
What does the EuRA seal add?
EuRA is the European Relocation Association. Our research found 11 Belgian destination service providers in its directory on 6 October 2026, and at least one of them holds the EuRA Global Quality Seal (EuRA directory). The directory has a filter for holders of the Plus certificate. A seal says that someone checked something. Ask which certificate a firm holds and when it was issued, and find the firm in the directory.
What should you check before you choose?
- Services and city. Does the firm do what you need, in your city?
- Language. The Brussels desk works in English, French, Dutch and Spanish (Commissioner Brussels, read 7 Oct 2026). Ask your consultant for yours.
- Registration. If the firm finds rentals for a fee, ask what registration it holds. We found no source that says whether a relocation agency needs IPI registration, and our research notes call it a question for a lawyer.
- Who does the legal part of a permit. We found no licence regime for immigration advice in our research. Some firms run a separate legal unit, and ABRA lists law firms as affiliates. The employer, not you, applies for a single permit (Commissioner Brussels, read 7 Oct 2026), so ask what an agency would add.
- Price in writing. No Belgian agency we read published one.
- A named consultant.
Which questions should you ask?
- What exactly is included, and what costs extra?
- How many property visits are in the price, and what if no home is found?
- Is the price per person or per household, and is VAT included?
- Who is my consultant, and who covers when they are away?
- Who is the lawyer for permit questions?
- Which association and which seal do you hold, and can I see them listed?
- Can I have the price and the terms in writing?
What are the red flags?
- A request to pay the rental guarantee in cash. In Brussels the usual guarantee sits on a blocked bank account, and money paid in cash or by transfer to the owner’s account can be lost if the owner becomes insolvent (Commissioner Brussels, read 7 Oct 2026).
- A fee for a home an estate agent listed for the owner. The Brussels commissioner says the service is free for tenants (Commissioner Brussels).
- A promise of a home, a permit or a date.
- No written scope or price, or pressure to pay in full before anything is done.
- A membership or seal you cannot find in the list of the body that issues it.
Is there a free option?
For the basics, yes. The Expat Welcome Desk of the Brussels commissioner calls itself a free, independent public service. It covers registering at the municipality, permits, rental contracts, social security, education and taxes (Commissioner Brussels, read 7 Oct 2026). Do the steps you can do yourself with moving to Belgium: what to know before you go, how to find an apartment in Brussels and settling-in services in Belgium, and hand over the rest.
How does ReloFinder list agencies?
Agencies are ordered by one published rule, the Google rating of their own listing weighted by how many reviews stand behind it. Agencies with a paid profile sit in a separate band labelled “Recommended · paid placement”. No agency can pay for its position. The method is on the how we rank page. At the time of writing, 7 October 2026, no Google ratings have been collected, so every list is A to Z and no agency is ranked.
What we could not source
We could not re-read the ABRA member list on 7 October 2026, so its names and count carry the date of our first reading. We found no entry criteria for ABRA and no register of relocation agencies, so we cannot tell you whether a given firm is licensed for what it sells. We did not confirm whether IPI registration applies to relocation agencies, and we did not check each EuRA member’s certificate. The counts of 27 directory entries and 11 EuRA providers are from our research reading of those pages on 6 October 2026.
When you are ready, tell us what you need and we pass your request to one agency that fits your city and services.
Common questions
Do I need a relocation agency in Belgium?
No rule asks for one. The Expat Welcome Desk of the Brussels Region gives free guidance on registration, permits, rental contracts and more, and the employer applies for a single permit. An agency helps most when you have little time and a home to find in Brussels. If your employer provides a service, use it first.
What is ABRA?
ABRA is the Association of Belgian Relocation Agents. Its member list named 16 full members on 6 October 2026, from Belgian firms to offices of international networks, and affiliates such as law firms, insurers and banks. We could not read the page on 7 October, because the site blocked our tools, and we found no entry criteria in our research notes.
What is the EuRA quality seal?
EuRA, the European Relocation Association, runs a quality certification, the EuRA Global Quality Seal. Our research found that at least one Belgian member holds it. A seal means someone checked something, so ask which certificate a firm holds and look for it in the directory.
What is the difference between a relocation agent and a moving company?
A moving company packs and transports your belongings. A relocation agent helps you settle in. A Belgian directory of relocation services that our research read listed 27 entries, mostly movers and comparison sites, so check which kind of firm you are talking to.
Does a relocation agency need a real-estate licence in Belgium?
Estate agents work under the professional institute IPI, and one expat estate agent shows its registration on its site. Whether a relocation agency that only finds rentals for clients needs the same registration is not confirmed by any source we read, so ask what registration the firm holds.
